Edward Mason Pettit was born in Mildenhall on 22nd December 1906 (Mildenhall Q1-1907 4A:954a) son of Edward and Maggie Pertwee PETTIT (née WOMERSLEY).


1911 census... Aged 4 he was at High Street, Mildenhall with his father Edward PETTIT [44] baker and confectioner, born Mildenhall; his mother Maggie Pertwee [39] born Sandown, Isle of Wight; sister Dorothy Evelyn [13] born Mildenhall. There was an elder sister Elsie M [14]


He married to Ivy Hatton CROUCH [29-10-1905] in Ely in 1928. In the 1939 register they were at St Andrews Street, Mildenhall, Edward was a market porter/gardener. With them were their sons Edward J. [12-6-1929] and Kenneth D [6-12-1938. Their other son must be one of the 3 closed records at that address. His widow re married in 1946 to Ronald PALMBY



Attested for Royal Artillery in 1940.
The 13th Anti Tank regiment were much travelled- France 1939-40, UK 1940-1942, India 1942, Iraq 1942-43, Syria 1943, North Africa 1943-44 and Italy from 1944.
Many of the graves in Arezzo were brought in from the surrounding area. At present there is no indication of where or when Edward was wounded.
